Back To Bruno

-------------------------

12/01/2004 - A new month, December, and good things come with it.

First off is that the pace of Bruno is working too slowly for me. Four days is not enough, I lose my concentration. So, starting January 1st I'll be going over to a 5-strip per week cycle. I know it's not the glory days of 6-strips/week, but I'm working full-time and doing a second strip, so allow me some peace on that niggly point.

The sketchblog... well, I don't want to lose it, but I simply can't keep up both. So I'll just try to post sketchblog entries here and there alongside Bruno, but can guarantee nothing.

Ummm.... And that's it really. But here's a picture of me with
Kip and Jenn's kitten, "Beasle."

-------------------------

12/03/2004 - Two things going on this week on the sketchblog. The first was just inking exercises. I find that I get too non-thinking about my inking, and the lines become thinner and has less variance. Here, even though I tried to keep up my anal habits, I concentrated on varying the line width, which amusingly enough, had only subtle (although pleasing) effect. The other is several Bruno heads. Remember a couple of weeks ago when I drew a few dozen pics of Bethanne's head? Well, I used those as reference to try and put Bruno's head in varying positions, the I feel the result has mixed results.

12/10/2004 - Seems i only blog these days at Bruno when i sketchblog. I suppose there's something appealing about sleep which has distracted me.

So yes, this week. I tried to go for things I wouldn't draw as often. A robot. I was drawing the robot, and I just felt that the robot is most likely mean (I don't know why i have this impression of robots, or this robot in particular, but i did/do/or something), and so, thus entered the cows. As far as the scuba-guy, he just fits into my recent desire to draw underwater adventures (any comic-book recommendations of underwater romance/adventure/sub-cities things?). The heads... whatever. The woman, actually was inspired by a blog by
Eric Burns at Websnark, I just wanted to draw a body type I wouldn't normally draw (and I like how it came out quite a bit).

Other than that, not much new. trying to keep up at sleep. Little Dee Original strips are now for sale at the Little Dee Site, that's been taking some time (thanks Matthew!). And work's fine, as Steph and I work on taking over the world.

-------------------------

12/17/2004 - Fun! A little Scuba-Pieta, some heads based on Phoenician fishermen, an Australian cowgirl, and a holiday card i drew for someone.

And the underwater thing. It's funny... the whole idea has just lightly rattled about in my head, as week after week I include these "underwater skethces" here and there, and then today, it began to click, the ball of the process of making a story from it began to slowly roll forward. It wasn't any kind of realization or brilliant idea, it's just been sitting around long enough that it decided to start walking.

The brain is a very strange unit.

-------------------------

12/20/2004 - So... Bruno books #3 and #9.... here's the story and reason for delay. About a year ago I wrote a small 17 page dialogue between Amy and Katalin, which takes place on the campus of Miss Halls School, where they attend. Last New Years I was out in Massachusetts visiting family, and Bethanne and I drove out to Miss Halls and I photo-sourced the campus. A couple months later I did the pencils for the story. And then it sat. Every day (give or take) I tell myself "find time and work on it" but I keep dragging my feet. I don't know why, it's just some stories get told, and some don't, this one has opted to remain in the latter category.

So yeah, anyhow. The books, being printed together, have been waiting patiently, otherwise relatively complete, for me to finish this backup story. And so I'm throwing in the towel. I have abandoned finishing the back-up story, and am going to substitute a "best of the sketchblog" for the back of Book #9 instead. When I find some spare time I'll upload the pencils for the back-up story so you can read it.

And now I just need some new ISBN numbers. I'll go do that application right now.

-------------------------

12/22/2004 - Well, a mix of some sickness and emotional-things and over-working melt-down caught up to me yesterday. I did the right thing. I stayed home from work "sick" took care of myself. And in the end, Bruno did not get done. I may shoot for two tomorrow, but I'm not pushing it at this point. But I did have a lovely time with Miss Bethanne, a little solstice dinner, some gifts from family, and then a quiet movie. Happy-boy.

12/23/2004 - Hey, they're small... but there's two strips. Just kinda' worked out that way.

-------------------------

12/24/2004 - Sketces are up, and I'm off for the weekend. Have a great Christmas weekend. :)

-------------------------

12/28/2004 - So, i am interested in learning more about post-apocalyptic literature (for my own evil creations). Any recommendations on good books which discuss this medium? Meaning: comparative literature type books? There's so much post-apocalyptic out there, especially it seems in Japanese culture, that there has to be books on the subject.

And to clarify: I'm not looking for actual post-apocalyptic fictional books, I've read a fair amount and definitely could read more, but it is not my current objective. Nor am i really looking for the topic of utopias/distopias, although that very well me a part of whatever book(s) I end up reading.

-------------------------

12/30/2004 - I haven't known what to say about the Tsunami that hit Asia. I'm shaken by the whole thing, it's just so horrible, and with the death toll continuing to rise, now over 80,000, it's just getting more and more nightmarish. It'll find it's way into Bruno this coming week, how could it not. But yeah, from lack of sleep, pre-set storyline, and numbness I haven't really been up to putting it in this week.

Anyhow, the best link I've found for helping (financially) is the
Red Cross through Amazon.com

As well, Clio (a fantastic illustrator) is doing a really nice benefit auction, although it's already rather high.
