My brother, Peter, has been playing music and producing albums for 15-20 years. Longer if you count us both taking up the trumpet in.... maybe elementary school or so. I have vague recollections of us having to practice trumpet in the car so my mom wouldn't have to listen.
but I digress,
So yeah, I'm totally biased, but I think he's just amazingly talanted and does beautiful work (and if you think Bruno's cross-hatching is anal, you should hear his producing). And he's been writing, producing, and performing with Ben Sumner for about the last dozen years, And their album "Hercules in the alleyway" has just been put out on March Rercords. So yes, samples of their music are on the Hercules site as well as links to purchase the album if you like what you hear.
On another note, can I just say how much I love drawing water in Bruno? The waterfalls out in the Columbia gorge, the ocean out in Yachats, and now thursday's strip and todays. A million ways to draw it, and it's fun trying to figure out what works and what doesn't.
And while you're feeling open to all this giving, Goats is making a run to be financially independent, and is trying to reach a minimum of $10,000 to do it, and they're about $130 away, so if you like Goats, do it. If I wasn't currently unemployed, I'd consider it myself.
Me... welllll... I only have one copy of book#3 left, so I've discontinued it, and so i have little to offer. In fact, not much funds at all, so book#3 plus book#9 are both on hold. Dee wiped me out this spring, so hell, everything is kinda on hold. But feel free to visit the moodycow store anytime you want, or commission me. I will not be making it to San Diego this year, but wish i could.
Today I am accepting of my fate. So feel free to just wish me good ju-ju and enjoy your day. :)
Regarding the sketches, all pencilled and then drawn with my trusty "0" 202 Sceptre Gold II synthetic & death-to-sable brush.
The anglerfish i think is just a bizarre and beautiful thing, like most sea-creatures, although I think sea critters've been on my mind since I've decided to incorporate them into my graphic novel (if it ever sees it's way to pen-to-paper). A pain to draw though, with all the filling in of the negative space, but worth it.
The Northern Flicker for some reason caught my attention, possibly because in the photo he had two females wooing him simultaneously, and he looks waaayyyy too happy. Acht. Bird-dreams. But it also reminded me of in comics how you were never supposed to use the work "FLICK" because it looks too similar to "FUCK". Strange, no?
The rest were just sketches from my head. The simple three on the left are based on my sketch style, which I use to lay out my graphic novel as I write it. The other two were just.. stuff i guess. No real story.
Some of it is a bit splotchy, i really drew it a bit too quickly and carelessly (although parts came out very very pleasingly), and I should have had Bethanne's laptop in front of me so i could see the color originals as i drew to see what was happening when the printouts got too dark, but aside from that, I'd only say i should have used a ruler on the borders. I usually prefer "organic" borders, but I think in this case it detracts.
So yeah. that's this week in a wrap. Looking forward to our Friday evening Tango class. Finally get to see Tripletts of Bellville with Bethanne and Kyle on Saturday, and in-between time is more work on Little Dee.
