Below is the sketch Don sent me origially, when he first proposed I wrote (not yet named) Yontengu for him to draw. The story did veer somewhat off the original intent, but I hink it kept the spirit of it. (and I STILL love the doodle)

Well, the peaceful behavior stops at intervening to do what she thinks is right for her daughter and the colony…
Ironically, the same rationale is driving her daughter in the first place (doing what she thinks is necessary for the world).
This was the first real test for both of them…
While currently overshadowed by the more immediate injury, it remains to be seen whether their parents realize the full weight of the “I can’t take the gloves off” confession… they could still hear it as “I won’t take them off (before the mission is finished)”.
Bollocks! She didn’t try to tell her– she very clearly DID tell her. Just because Mom’s got moral superiority locked down with her daughter doesn’t give her the right to ignore whatever she says.
I’m with @Herandar. Her mom did diss her quite seriously. I’d like to think that I’d at least give my 17-yo daughter the time (AND the trust) to explain what in Hades she was talking about before trying to grab the Melting-Gloves-of-Death off her insolent little hands.
It had to happen sometime… Yes, Julie gave the warning but her mom didn’t want to listen (a common situation to younger people), but I can’t stop to wonder if a person more mature than Julie could have handled better the situation…
And now you know the true horror of the Midas Touch.
