03/21/25 – Erasing A People’s History

|

In the upstairs lounge on the ship, Val, Audri, Lasper, and Gerek sat. Lasper said, "So, Gerek, I've never heard of a peaceful Bollyck, not since your kind was betrayed by the G.O.B." Gerek said, "I'm surprised you know of our history since the G.O.B. has been so determined to erase every whisper of it." Lasper replied, "Any people's history is hard to completely suppress." Gerek said, "Many of my people are peaceful by nature, but the feelings of fear and betrayal are still strong, so many are understandably enthusiastic about pirating. That said, it's still wrong, limiting, and jingoistic. I think there can be healing, that we can do better. And I'm trying, but it's hard since I'm both hated and feared." Lasper said, "An interesting predicament. I'm going to ponder on that." Lasper then said to Val and Audri, "And what do you two need?" Val said, "Nothing. My friend Jo who I left behind has probably killed herself. We're a lost cause. All we have left is survival." Audri pointed her finger at Val and yelled, "Don't listen to that sourpuss. I have some lovin' I need!" Val looked aside, grumpy and sarcastic, and said, "Right. Nick. Because surely true love is actually a real thing." Audri crossed her arms and closed her eyes and stuck her nose in the air and said, "Not with that attitude, it isn't."

I wouldn’t advise getting between Audri and some lovin’.

Loose ends and bookends. Whence our quest for the switched personalities, and their recovery? Are Audri and Val so reduced, then? What will it take for them to get their hunger for normalcy back?

‘Course, since that will likely mean Val will have to deal with a body in an uncontrolled progression to a pain intestinal death, I can expect some reluctance. Normalcy ain’t what it used to be.

Yeah, I never understood their desire to leave the planet where they woke up with switched bodies. Any hope they have of returning to normal lies with the technology that switched them in the first place. But these two have been thinking so reactively that they aren’t even thinking in those terms.
