Still in the escape pod, Audri asked, "so, why is our story so unbelievable?" Crossing his arms, Gerek said, "Im no scientist, but I'm interested in it and keep up on the scientific a-journals." A-Journal is short for Approxiscan-Journal. Gerek continued, "and consciousness-switching would have definitely been mentioned if someone had succeeded at it." Val said, "well, I wouldn't exactly call the experiment a success." Audri chimed in, "definitely not!" Val explained, "plus, it just happened, like, a week ago. And the lab was raided right when we regained consciousness. We managed to escape while everyone else seemed to be arrested. Plus, the lead scientist seemed to be surprised our minds were from another planet. I don't think the experiment went as planned." Gerek said, "you never know with scientists. Maybe it all went exactly as planned." Miffed, Val said, "and here I was just wondering how our situation could be any more depressing than it already is. Thanks, Gerek."

The really frightful thing about Occam’s Razor is how many useful and underappreciated fingers you can lose trying to slice down to the simplest possible explanation. Yeowtch!

Journals take too long–it happening a week ago would be far too soon, even without the complication of the police shutting everything down. The only sure way to find out would be to go there.

Maybe approxiscan journals go faster. Imagine having an entire galaxy of worlds, every one with scientists who might be able to beat you to your discovery. I could see publishing turning into something just a little more sophisticated than posting on social media.

We don’t know the operation was shut down. It is possible that the scientist hired thugs to … dispose of the subjects, told the government some fake story about how they were dangerously insane.
