Walking towards Audri and Val, Runk said, “ugh. you two are so tedious! It’s only been three draak-sim rotations, and you’ve been more behaved than a Qiyemp.” The ships alarms began going off, reeyoooo! Reeyoooo! Checking his computer, Runk said, “oh, come on! Not Bollycks. They’re everywhere these days.” He then went to the bridge’s escape pod and hit a button to open the door to it and said, “oh well, being captain on this ship has been a good run, but now it’s time to go.” As Runk stepped into the escape pod, Audri asked, “wait. Are they dangerous? Can we come with you?” Runk said, “don’t worry, you’ll be fine. I’d never put my crew in danger.” Unimpressed, Val sarcastically said, “oh. right. We totally believe you. Can we come with you anyway?” Poking his head back out for a moment, Runk said, “are you suuuurre you’re not being sarcastic?”

Remind me, what’s a Bollyck?
Murdery pirate dudes. They’re laser proof. Way back in book one, Dimitri demonstrated that they are not, in fact, bullet proof.
Neither did they prove to be Bikki proof.
Blood! Nope. They never met anyone like Bikkie before. And, they fervently hope they never meet such ever again. Blood!

How comes there’s no sarcasm quotes around “I’d never put my crew in danger”?
Cause he’s not being sarcastic, he’s straight up lying. There’s a difference.
As soon as that pod launches, they’re not his crew any more. They’re some other crew that happens to be in danger; sad, but not his responsibility.
Murderous aliens that absolutly love to kill everone and dance in the guts. Possibly the end of the captain?
No beginning of the series without Bollyck inteverntion!
It’s good to see Chekhov’s escape pod coming into play.
I think we’re about to see how bad an idea can come out of a bored bully. Where’d I leave my teeth protector? I’m gunna be gritting mine pretty hard the next few days.
Since they aren’t allowed ANY defense, when attacked, all they can do is give up. Seems like some one would have tried slug guns at some point other than Dimitri.
