One of the worst feelings in the world is powerlessness, but any cake can be frosted with the additional feeling of stupidity.

As Audri was being dragged off, her voice was heard fading off into the distance yelling, “auuuughhhhhh!” Val, upset with herself said, “I’m sorry Audri! I don’t know why I got all semantic on you! You’re right he… um… can’t do this! Even if he’s, you know, just about to do it. I mean… sorry!” Val hung her head in shame and said, “I care about you! You’re my friend! And this is horrible!” Val yelled at the heavens, “gah! I can be so stupid sometimes. Why was I debating for clarity when I don’t even give a crap about clarity?” Val began to cry, “all I care about is that my friend is going to get hurt, and that sucks. And now I’ve made her feel even more terrible. Why would I behave that way?” Runk, taking notes on an approxiscan and smiling, said, “II don’t know, but I’m taking notes.”

Some intense topics you are dealing with here Chris. I really like the comic, by the way
Thank you, @Ernesto! 🙂
I’m curious about his upbringing, his parents, and how often he, himself, was abused. But I suspect that will have to wait.
The flip from pedantic, emotionless arguing for a laugh for us, to immediately tearful sorrow feels really abrupt.
And still, what can she do about it anyway? Literally nothing.
I don’t know why but these two really aren’t gelling for me.
Same. To be honest, I’m still waiting for this entire arc to finally “get going” for me – because it has not yet, not in the sense all the previous ones had. Every one of those was about individuals facing a higher goal and their journey of rising (or failing to) meet it. This one so far is just about personal hardship – not any less inconvenient to face, but with loads less epic adventure appeal.
I mean – a better grasp of what he can and can’t actually do might have saved her from this in the first place….
Misery deserves documentation. Write that down!
Audri comes back with a smile on her face.
“Did they decide not to flog you?” Val asks.
Audri says, “Nope. Definitely got flogged.”
“So why are you smiling?”
“Turns out that in space, ‘flogging’ means to feed ice cream!”
And then we find out their new bodies are lactose intolerant…. Yep. Sounds like the sort of plot twist we have all come to know and love around here.
