It’s nice when everyone in an organization can feel involved.

Looking pleased with himself, Runk pressed an ‘alert’ button and said, “heh. I’m amazed that you would be so utterly brazen on your first day, since you know that the punishment is flogging.” Shocked, Audri said, “what?! I knew no such thing. We’re on a spaceship, in space. Advanced races like yours must be beyond such barbarism.” Runk laughed as two guards rushed in and grabbed Audri by the arms. Seeing him laughing, Audri said, “okay, I’m reassessing my assumptions about outer space.” Runk put his hand to his chest and said, “well, don’t blame me. You’re the one who voluntarily signed the 17-year contract. It’s just a pity you didn’t read the fine print.” Audri said, “about that. The chief officer said that the hand scan was just to record attendance. I want to talk to human resources!” Runk grabbed his belly and laughed, “guards, take this underling to the flogging room. And let Keydith in human resources know that they can land the first strokes with the whip.” Audri asked, “I don’t suppose there’s a union?” Runk replied, “and let Yarpy from the union know they can go second.”

“I have a complaint!”
“You’re not human. You can complain to Tith Resources.”
“Will they help?”
“Yes. They’ll help us find the best parts of a Tith to flog. They’re very resourceful.”
Reminds me of a certain politician; “compassion? Yes, I’ll whip your hide off with much passion.”
And I just noticed the large sign saying “Escape pod” behind killer Kermit.
Of course he has an escape pod nearby so he can save himself in case of trouble. But that’s a good catch: Maybe that’s Chekhov’s escape pod.

Remember, flog spelled backwards is golf!
And golf uses clubs.
So is there a small, easily removeable part, or something of great value they can take with them into the escape pod?
Something that will disable and silence the ship.
I ran into an organization like this once. I am sorry to this day that I didn’t find a way to remove them from the continent. Them, their building, their records. Another day, perhaps. When they’ve forgotten me.
