It’s so strange to develop a strip for years. I think I first wrote the draft for this almost two years ago. And if I recall, I was listening to a lot of Robert Louis Stevenson at the time.

The bosun led Audri and Val along the hallways of Runk’s ship. Audri said, “Val? What’re you thinking?” Val said, “that this, all this, this isn’t good. I’ve read enough books as a kid to recognize that we’ve probably just been shanghaied. It’s straight out of Robert Louis Stevenson or something.” Audri said, “yeah.” The bosun turned back to them and said, “I wanted to let you know, we just left port. I have a few things to do, but then ill show you around and give you your work assignments.” Audri asked, “did you find out when we get dropped off on Earth?” The bosun said, “he was yanking your chain. We’re going in the opposite direction. On the bright side, you’ll probaby have enough money for the fare to get there once your contract’s done.” Audri admonished herself and said, “I knew we’d signed some kind of contract. How long is it? A week? A month? I’m braced for anything, so i’m not going to freak out.” The bosun said, “seventeen years.” Catatonically wide-eyed, Audri said, “see? That’s too cataclysmic for me to freak out.”

No problem! Once Picknar and Thoos figure out how to swap back, it will be they who serve seventeen years.
