06/05/24 – Changed Perspective

|

In Val's house, Rodrigo has Picknar try on various outfits, and finally settles on the same one Val was wearing at the beginning of this series. Touching his chin thoughtfully, Rodrigo said, "it'll have to do." Rodrigo then rummaged through the refrigerator, and said, "her taste in food isn't much better." Abandoning that, he looked in the cupboards, smiled, and said, "Oh wait a second. Some Louis Latour Chateau Corton Grancey Grand Cru and a bottle of St. Germain elderflower liqueur. Huh. That changes my perspective of her a little." Slightly hopeful, Picknar asked, "that maybe she has decent taste after all?" Slyly, Rodrigo said, "no, that her gift-giving friends have decent taste."

I’d planned on giving Picknar/Val a new outfit, but for some reason they wanted to be in the same dress. Go figure!

When Val gets back, she’ll wonder why all the rum is gone.
    .
“Jo, why is all the rum gone?”
“Don’t you remember your friend who looks like Captain Jack Sparrow?”

  2. Louis latour château corton grancey grand cru? That’s a $200 (ish) wine, good job.

But…what year? If you’re buying someone a $200 bottle of wine you kinda want to know what year.

Yeah, so a guy named Grancey had a chateau in the Corton subregion of Burgundy, so that was Chateau Corton Grancey, and then sold it to Louis Latour (back in the 1890s something), so now it became Louis Latour Chateau Corton Grancey. It would have been far too simple if they had just renamed it to Chateau Corton Latour or something I suppose.

Puts me in mind of that grand Australian wine, a Couvée Reservée Chateau Nieu San Wogga-wogga, which, I’m told, has a bouquet like an aborigine’s armpit. (Thanks again, Eric Idle!)
