Knox is so good, looking for reasonable and humane solutions.

Out on the street, Knox, Rodrigo, Picknar, and Thoos bump into Craig, an old classmate of Knox. Craig, on seeing Knox, said “oh, hey, Knoxy. What’s up?” Knox said, “Hey, Craig. I’m glad I ran into you. We’ve known each other since high school, and now that you’re a police officer you must know some basic law, right?” Craig said, “duh. Yeah. Of course.” Knox then asked him, “what would be the legal process if there were two women we knew who insisted they were aliens, and who should be committed to a mental facility?” Craig replied, “that’s two separate questions. To be committed, a doctor would have to say they’re crazy and intended harm, but weren’t sane enough to realize it.” Disappointed in this answer, Knox said, “hrm. That might not work. they both seem silly, but harmless.” Leaning in, Craig said, “but if they’re aliens, I’d simply arrest them.” Realizing what Craig is thinking, Knox said nervously, “what? Heh. No. I’m sure they’re not actually aliens, they’re just nuts.” Thoos chimed in, “we totally are aliens, he just doesn’t believe us.” Feeling he’s losing this battle, Knox said, “It’s not what you think. They’re not aliens from Mexico, they’re aliens from space. I mean they aren’t that either, but-” Craig interrupted him, “you’re still a weirdo, Knox. It’s amazing how little changes since high school.” Finally, giving up, Knox said, “I’m beginning to think that space is where one should want to be. To actually get a little peace and relaxation.”

She’s nuts not because she thinks she’s an alien, but because she just heard Knox betray her, and then heard Craig say he’d arrest her, then told Craig the reasons to commit her or arrest her are correct.
If all that was going on was that you believed you were an alien you might, just maybe, get a referral to community mental health services. Unless you are causing a disruption or doing something that makes the local authorities uncomfortable you probably wont get arrested for saying you are an alien from space. There are folks that wish they were an alien from space. They may be a little eccentric but are usually pretty functional. Unfortunately for people with fixed delusions, a sustained belief that is stable over time, they usually have enough other issues in parallel with the delusion that believing they are an alien is the least of their problems. Being an alien in a local body isn’t what would get you arrested. It’s the stuff that you did not knowing any better that would get you in trouble. I suspect Knox and Rodrigo are going to end up being native guides.
I suspect that Craig wasn’t Knox’s friend in high school, but like so many cops, a bully.
Knox and Craig had the same Scowling teacher in high school.
Must have been a rough day.
