Scars. So, the bit about how they ingest sustenance was a line put in there long ago (I wrote the first draft about two years ago) because it opened up a huge other side-plot, which was later removed. Funny how that happens.

Picknar feeling foolish and defeated put their hands to cover their face and said, “I mean, sure, maybe agreeing to do the experiment in the first place wasn’t fully thought out by either of us.” They then remove their hands and look at them and said, “either way, here we are, trapped in bodies of… what species are you? Are we?” Knox replied, “people.” Rodrigo clarified, “humans. On earth.” Picknar put their finger to their chin and thought, “oh. Earth. Huh. I think that’s the closest inhabited planet to ours. So, we have no idea how we got to these hot pools, how beings on earth get around.” Thoos added, “or how humans survive without fur all over their bodies, let alone how they ingest sustenance.” Crossing his arms, Knox said, “we just eat food, and can digest it. imagine that.” Smiling, Rodrigo added, “tut. Wine helps.”

Jonathan Hoag could help them with sustenance issues.
So, on that other planet (Proxima centauri?) are the two girls waking up in bodies that they don’t understand? Then do they figure out how to get help, after giving up on the not so good doctor?
Inquiring minds want to know.
“Proxima centauri?” It should be, given the Tiths are centaurs.

“I am? I live in this box?”
“That’s what your ID says.”
“Val, you’re home!”
“See?”
“Who are you?”
“Um, Jo, your best friend?”
“She’s had a confusing day.”
“Well, I know what she needs. Have some bourbon and Diet Coke!”
“…GLAX!!!”
“You’re welcome.”
It doesn’t help that the first human beings Picknar and Thoos encounter are the species’ least curious.
I like how Knox is immediately snippy with ETs who have no idea how to use the bodies they have been swapped into. Yet Rodrigo is all “let’s get them drunk.”
“Humans… oh yeah, the species that killed all those rogue EEBS that one time…”
… (suddenly, I am very worried)…
