“Limited” empathy seems generous?
Well, she clearly has _some_ empathy, considering she’s more than once risked her own life and well being for those of others with no expected profit, it’s just not as deeply felt as some people. So, limited.
Good going, Choan! Got it in one.
Amusing my self by imagining the various possible noises Choan might make that translate to “hardy-har-har-har”.
Thinking it might be a kind of cackle.
Like a joyless, humorless, sarcastic cackle.
Oh, I dunno, I kinda think that Choan feels plenty of joy and amusement in her life. It rather looks like that’s what she lives for — doing it for the shits and giggles, as it were. 🙂
Hmm. What _would_ a sarcastic onomatopoeia for a hearty laugh be like in the language of an aquatic species?
Hm, I think that’s the name of the Bupillion?
I’m so used to people look at me like panel 5, but they usually have more eyes.
Also by now I learned not to make that face in panel 4, cause it makes people try to avoid me for some reason.
Not sure if I’m just more socially functional than Choan, or simply less smart.
She’s basically a high functioning autistic.
There are some like her on earth. Read about one such, good with electronics. Designed some amplifiers for Deep Purple I think it was.
Called the Savant syndrome. Some of the low functioning ones used to be called Idiot Savants.
Being one such highly functioning person on the spectrum, although more of an aspie than a savant, I can indeed sympatize with her a lot.
.
“That was placement testing. We were assessing where we should place you.”
“Oh! You want to train me in one of your institutions?”
“Ah, yes, we want to place you in an institution. A remote one.”
She may be Crazy, Smart, and lack Empathy, but at least she didn’t capture a little blue bird and paint a big black X on it.
Yea. Saw it coming this sorta way somehow… Let’s see if she actually learns from it instead of brushing it off. (Though her effort to save her people does suggest she learned *something*).
You can lead a Choan to water, but you can’t be her shrink.
Well, we knew this about Choan, when? Two weeks ago? And we knew from the start that the Stribs could dope the Bupillions like hayseeds from Lower Back Pain, Arkansas. So if this is what they meant to illumine for her, it’s a wasted trip.
Worse, it lowers my estimation of the Bupillions quite a bit. If they already knew she was a construct, a deliberately-diminished being artificially augmented to technological superiority, then they should have known they could expect no event to alter her basic deconstructed biology. I mean, really! Ruddock had a greater impact on Choan’s thinking by biting her leg and asking to be returned home.
The Bupillions thus have less understanding of Choan than Ruddock. How much does anyone want to bet the Bupillions will do no better than to send her home with her ill-gotten tech and failed insight? They don’t seem to have anything else in mind. No wonder the Stribs cheated them of so much.
Coyotes are extremely keen observers of humans. It’s part of the survival kit that let’s them thrive in suburbs. There’s probably a coyote watching you right now.
