Spacetrawler, audio version For the blind or visually impaired, October 25, 2021.
There was an article about Climate Exhibitions in the NYT last week which including the traveling “Forest Fire” exhibit (opening Dec 10th!) put together by Michael and Heather Llewellyn, two of the nicest most dedicated people I know. It largely features work by artists who have been invited to stay at Sagehen Field Station, which we did a few years ago.
They commissioned me to animate their script about the exhibit, which you can watch here. Cedra’s work is included in the exhibit.
Note panel 5: galatic should be galactic
And panel one should be “*one* of the most”
Ah, it’s always nice to see a cameo from old conehead and moustache-eyes.
Khudraac and Shaix, if memory serves.
I thiiink it was rendered as Khu-draac with a hyphen or something? It’s been quite a while since I last read the original spacetrawler series.
And he’s been impressed by the GOB being secretly controlled by a creature from another universe. Tough act to follow (precede?).
You were closer than I: Kuu-drahc. 😀
Dang! My aim is no better than my recall!
You know, the phrase “travelling ‘Forest fire exhibit'” is /really/ begging to be misinterpreted…
Couple of years back, we had a major one in the area I live in. Smack bang in the middle of the army’s artillery shooting ranges and practice areas in the forests and mountains – so lots and lots of unmarked unexploded ordnance and suchlike.
Local people, schools, hostels and restaurants pitched in to aid the firefighters with food and accomodations.
So of course the national bureau of taxation demanded the firemen pay taxes on these “work-related benefits”.
Somehow, Khudraac and his crony made me think of that.
I like that piece from Cedra.
And nice work on the animation Christopher.
Hear, hear! That is a clear visual to accompany the narration, uncluttered and cute. Nicely done!
Haha, I see the boxes have been on the Speaker’s desk for quite some time!
And here I thought they were bricks, to remind the Speaker of the G.O.B. that there are worse things they could be doing instead of herding the G.O.B.
Jeff and Faerthen have retired from Sagehen and are currently “biking the Alps”, according to a mutual friend. Sounds like something they’d do, doesn’t it?
I like your animation, Christopher, for its directness and no-nonsense telling of a lesson that took centuries for us to learn. Managing forests is still something we’re experimenting with, actually. And Cedra’s work reminds me of a different young woman who has used a similar design for a copper half-vedette piece of armor, used to shield the unaffected breast from radiation during cancer treatments. Something primal and protective about those overlapping diamonds.
The Annins now scare me to death. Orchestrating a coup is never easy (viz. Haiti and Somalia this month) but the Annins seem to have a natural skill even against an unfamiliar more-advanced race. That’s a power of some consequence. I can hardly wait to hear the story of how the G.O.B. responded to the seven-planet takeover. Must have been one pip of a struggle.
