That Strib communication device reminds me strongly of Escher’s hand with reflecting sphere, and makes Aitana look like the boss she is.

Well, the way to hell is paved with good intentions.

Don’t you mean “pawed?”

And this shows just how (in human terms) emotionally limited the Stribs are. They are assuming that the only emotional ties are the ones between parent and that parent’s young child. They totally discount any emotional ties that exist between the adult children and THEIR parents (i.e., Aitana’s adoptive grandparents), any brothers or sisters their slaves (to call it by its proper name) may be emotionally tied to, and any aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, or close friends these slaves may have.
Whenever I read or watch a story based around this idea (aliens kidnapping humans for some non-fatal reason), I keep thinking how short-sighted these aliens are. If they openly presented themselves and put out their request for VOLUNTEERS, they would be astonished at the number of humans who would volunteer, either out of a desire for adventure or a desire to help another species.

Oh, and why team “Stern Humans”? Aren’t the ones in the bow just as dedicated?

Those crew up front can certainly give them hull, but the crew aft is worth a king’s transom.

Well played, sir! Well played!

Nothing is more obscene than the condescension of kidnappers to their victims as to their motives. This isn’t just selfishness; it’s a direct appeal to join their twisted reasoning as to why they need captives and you won’t miss them.
Get to your station, Chiphu. Load photon torpedoes and stand by to launch a full salvo. The Stribs have just provided all the justification we need.

They’re “put them out of our misery” kind.
