Wow, that really was lucky (not for barbot, but barbot is pretty awful).
“Fleeing on penalty of death for breaking a stupid antiquated law.” So, a criminal. No chance of every seeing Alkalyne again.
Nope.

I can’t believe that nobody else has commented on Alkalyne’s species name: Darnitawl, as in “Darn it all to heck!”

A friend in need is a friend indeed (or is it “in deed”?).

Rule of Equeelin – I’m guessing it has something to do with either horses or fashion, possibly both.

This certainly is one of the more civilized exchanges Chiphu has ever had with a non-human, bot or alien alike. We can wish and hope better things come out of it. But there’s this little matter of Equeelin to consider, whatever the heck that is, and where Alkyine can run to where she (I presume!) won’t be found.
….And yet, somewhere in the back of my mind is the suspicion that all of this, Chiphu’s rescue, the Equeelin thing, returning him to Spacetrawler, is all connected somehow. The odds of a random ship finding Chiphu before his air ran out produce numbers than appall me with the numbers of zeros behind them. I would dislike this number whether it was femtoseconds or apples.

Perhaps his ship is powered by an infinite improbability drive?

Yeah, but if it was chocolate chip cookies, I’d be all in!

There’s the Black Hole lottery. The odds of winning are so astronomical, everyone agrees that’s where you’re throwing your money. The prize is essentially everything is free for life, because you’ll never be able to spend the actual payout and it’s cheaper for the lottery commission that way.

Hmm… I think I’ll take a Long Walk to think about that, maybe read some Bachman in the park.
