For any of you who are professionals studying in the field, I apologize if my use of PTSD related terminology isn’t 100% correct (but I did enough research that hopefully it’s in the right ballpark).
“I still won’t take risks and go on adventures with you.”
“But I cured you!”
“You cured me of PTSD, not common sense.”
You spoiled Christopher’s dialog for tomorrow; he’ll have to re-write now.
One of the benefits of symbiosis.
I could use one for a while.
Awesome!
“Drop of a hat” == “Being blown up in the vacuum of space”
That WILL make you drop your hat, though, so there’s that.
@Ray, @Efogot, Ha! 🙂
Hmmmm. Now we’ve had one character “cured” of their gender dysphoria by alien tech, and another “cured” of their PTSD by alien means. I wonder if this is part of some overarching theme, or just plot coincidence.
I imagine it’ll shape their characters moving forward
I don’t know that I would call Chiphu “cured” just yet. We haven’t seen them attempt a relationship with anyone aside from just living with the other crew members. They have a different morphology but they are still the same person inside. Describing the things that would moderate the PTSD is probably pretty accurate (I’ve been out of the psychology biz for a few years). What the symbiont describes is deeply invasive down to the level of surgery on individual cells. The scary bit is that the symbiont could just tweak his memories to make him a bit more accepting or whatever else fit the symbionts motives. On another level, the Cowardly Lion now has his courage. Lots of Wizard of Oz themes in this plotline.
Chiphu: Why am I hungry for live bloodworms?
Symbiote: Oh yeah. That one’s for me.
Crouching behind my chair now. Watching carefully. If there’s one thing PTSD is known for, it’s finding new triggers. Endocrine surgery or no. The day Tesfay sees somebody accidentally step on a chicken, BAM! It can all be undone. Or a duck.
So he could be out for a duck?
Or a pigeon. It could be anything, really.
