Hey, no fair, we can’t see how Ruddock’s reacting to any of this. 😉

“Dammit, I’m a security agent, not a Doctor!”
Metaphizzle
Chiphu decides to tag along because she sees this as an opportunity to transition? Interesting development.
Frankie D.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking as well.
Metaphizzle
HE! I meant he!
Jude
You know how to write them, Christopher. I really REALLY look forward eagerly to each new episod
Jude
…oops, hit send by accident. Just wanted to add – you never disappoint!

+1!

If this continues, Emily risks developing empathy with Nogg to the Point of hugging him, I fear.

Emily hails from Australian (by way of Brograhm’s teeth) and currently talking to people from Spain.
Naturally they would assume that access to medi-bots is a sentient’s right throughout the galaxy (and it is).
It is only the author (Chris) who is not used to this being from the U.S. 😉
Mic
I think asking about what the medical situation is like in space isn’t that far-fetched a question when he’s just seen a bunch of apparently cute and non-threatening puppies throwing explosives and attempting to abduct a child.
Kaidah
Emily is from North America, not Australia. Dustin was from the land down under. Besides, I don’t think they even have coyotes in Australia.
ronald
Australia has dingos. A few strips ago, Chiphu misidentified Ruddock as a jackal. I think every continent has dog-like predators of some kind or another.
The other issue is this: Chiphu is from Bhutan, which although having universal healthcare, is limited in its medical facilities/abilities.
Meran
The medibot didn’t find anything wrong with you….
Famous last (pre?) words… if past teams are any example, poor person may end up with less biological mass than machinery! Hold on to your blanket, little one! You’re going to need it! (I’m getting flashes on the Hitchhiking Guide and the need for towels. Or is that bathrobes? Or both?)
April
I know I’d tag along for any wacky space mission if it meant free and advanced transition treatment. But I would also probably go because hey, wacky space mission, admittedly.
April
And much like a wacky space mission with advanced medical tech, I would have been all in on more Spacetrawler, but Spacetrawler with trans rep?? Hell yeah.
I can’t help thinking Aitana’s addressing Emily as much as she is anyone else. The obligey-bot will help her learn how to run the ship …
ronald
Even Nogg knew better than to try recruiting children. Too bad this child’s recruited herself. 🙂
(wow, that’d be some story, huh, a spaceship crewed by an international selection of children? yeah, that’d be some story, all right, but what character would be clueless enough to recruit a crew of children?)
Clearly AItana is a pre-teen or “tween” but how old is she? Twelve? Ten? Eight or under? Doesn’t matter, I’m just curious.
Pedrocelli
Maybe that story would be not so far removed from Lord of the Flies
TB
Please put a character list somewhere on the page. I have to keep flipping through episodes to remember how to spell all the weird names.
I also miss the old tags that would pull up every page where a particular character appeared. I understand that would be very difficult to change for past strips, but maybe you could do it moving forward?
ronald
And there are still at least NINE more human characters who have been established to exist but whom we have yet to meet: The single woman, single man, polyamorous moresome (which I presume means three or more people), lesbian couple, and gay couple that the dog star people have already “recruited” (according to the 10/23 strip).
Did you know that back in the 1970s Robert Heinlein AND Gene Roddenberry theorized that polyamorous families would become commonplace over the next few decades? Unless I’m Wrong.
Just because the aliens were collecting them, doesn’t mean they’re going to be characters who are part of the plot, nor does their list imply that it is all inclusive.
ronald
Okay but for the record I’d really like it if all of them to at least appear on-panel at some point. 🙂
Ruddock’s along because, well, Emily is a better pack leader than he’s ever known.
Aitana’s got an honest-to-God reason for wanting to come along and rescue her parents from some really nefarious aliens.
Tesfay seems genuinely interested in seeing right done and wrongs righted. He also appears to have no close contacts on Earth to care about.
But Chipu? I don’t know what his deal is, but it’s focused on medical attention. I don’t know that he’s keen on gender reassignment, but aside from being reassured he will be taken care of if he gets physically damaged, his reason for suddenly joining this mad band is obscure at best and possibly inimical at worst. Exactly how I’m not clear; it’s not like he has a grasp of just what is medically possible on a Galactic scale, so I’m figuring his motives here are closer to home. More Earthly, if you will. And probably intensely personal.
Dollars to donuts Emily is going to have her hands full shortly with sorting out why Chipu is along on this trip. Not that she wanted any of them along. Or that ‘dollars to donuts’ is no longer as far-fetched a measure of value as it used to be. Sigh.
Muzhik
Something no one seems to consider when wondering why this guy, that the Medi-bot says is OK (at least “nothing wrong”); why this guy, from Bhutan, was in Spain sleeping in an alley. If he was some student tired of hosteling, well, that’s one thing. But I suspect there’s some wild and crazy backstory to him that will make his concerns about medical care make sense, such as a genetic anomaly that doesn’t show up until he’s in his 30’s or 40’s.
DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW WHAT “ALONE” MEANS?!!!!!
Yeah, “lonely.” Now where do I put my stuff?

Word to the wise: Not all Earthlings have a good time of it in space. Be careful by whom you get shanghai’ed.
Emily did say she has poor communication skills.

I promise nothing! 🙂
And now we play the ‘hidden motives’ game.

(Oh, and forget Medi-bot gender tran. I want Medi-bot JOYCE tran!

And for that matter, why was Tesfay sleeping in the alley? Girlfriend kick him out, or just another product of Spain’s economic slump?
And as for Emily’s “I prefer to work alone.” : Sure thing, Mom. Hey, can we stop for some tapas on the way out of town?
Love Emily’s face in panel 2. I’ve felt exactly like that, and with similar results…
