We don’t see any hook when Mauricio starts narrating this story.

I don’t think we see him take his serape off while he’s narrating so it might still be there. Although it would admittedly protrude somewhat, so it’s probably not. Also Jabby is on his left shoulder instead of his hand, so I have a bad feeling this encounter with the (The? is the “The” part of his name?) Gounder is going to get worse before it gets better.

Wherein the Gounder and Jabby reenact the scene of King Arthur vs. the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Except the Black Knight wins.

You’d think jabby could just remove most or all of the torso to disable the sponge. Or perhaps he could integrate with it to power up his blaster even more.
Mic
You’re assuming he has the power to do so while also fighting.
Efogoto
Given what he accomplished in the encounter with the Kreebrick, dealing with the sponge seems almost child’s-play. Anyone as childish as Jabby should be able to handle that.

Panel #7: “Oh noes, I’m being dismembered, what a bother…”
Peter Rogan
I must say, Chris’s fight scenes are the most horrifying and realistic physical battles I’ve seen rendered. Combat typically is a process of loss, the winner being the one who loses less and retains the battlefield, but I can’t recall another artist, aside from Vaughn Bod?, who renders combat losses so explicitly.
Or who poses an existential question as the break point in the action. Who, after all, is hostage to who? Whose perspective wins out here, regardless of who wins the physical fight? Nice touch. I shall study it further.
I like to think it’s because of how much I abhor violence.

“I’m Spartacus!”
I was so sure that two other guys were the Gounder already that now I’m sure this declaration is a ruse. After all, he only used an energy sponge instead of a gounder to make his point.

Heck yes. Here’s that sweet sweet battle we all saw coming.
So does the hook ever leave?

Thank you, @Peter. That means a lot.
