Veff is like a bad penny that keeps turning up. A lovely expression from the 18th century meaning counterfeit money that you keep getting and trying to fob off on others.

Anesu’s just going to get the loot and Devyat back again, and he won’t know it for an awkwardly long time.
Well, she’s half-Eeb and we have no evidence whether she’s been modified-clamped or whether halfbreeds have the same telekinetic limitations as the ones deliberately engineered without it. I’m not counting on it, but I’m not willing to rule it out, either.
Not sure why, but your bad penny comment reminds me of the Oscar Wilde sketch by Monty Python.
@Herandar, somehow I’d never seen that sketch. What a lovely morning treat. π
Veff’s not very bright, coming back to the ship where he was humiliated at least three times. What a glutton for punishment. Well, if that’s what he wants, so be it. Going to be fun to see Devyat pushed beyond her limits, to be sure.
King’s dialogue in 3rd panel is really awkward: “If you can’t save Aulton’s destruction, at least postpone it as long as you can.”
Nogg isn’t trying to “save the destruction” he’s trying to save the planet.
Could be better reworded as:
“If you can’t save Aulton from destruction, at least postpone it as long as you can.”
or
“If you can’t save Aulton, at least postpone it’s destruction as long as you can.”
“SAVE” should be “STOP”. Much simpler solution.
Herandar – Yep, you’re both clever and correct. Changing the single word “Save” to “Stop” would fix it.
Seymour/Herandar, thank you! Fixed! π
I almost feel like Nogg doesn’t deserve the crap that happened in this strip. Certainly his reputation precedes him, but pretty much everything going wrong WOULD have happened anyway if he didn’t come along.
Then I remember he abducted four earthlings again. So he probably deserves at least the stress.
_Five_ earthlings. Don’t forget Bikkie.
I didn’t. I remembered that he didn’t kidnap Martina’s half-brother. Directly.
Ok, maybe you’ve got a point.
Might I recommend the Big Black song “Bad Penny” for another concise illustration of the concept — as long as your tolerance for vulgarity and highly processed industrial guitar shred is high.
