07/30/14 Vagus Doesn’t Stay

That title’s for you, Coyoty. šŸ˜‰

I’ve been madly editing my novel, which is a crying shame because today was freakin’ gorgeous and I should have been out skipping around in it. But the editing is going very well and I’m REALLY excited.

Went over a friend’s last night for cookies, chips, storytelling and talking about writing. It was worth braving the torrential rain.

07/11/14 One Good Turn

2014-07-11_oneway_4ufw3

So, yes. Minneapolis. There was this thing. Convergence. An annual SF/F convention in Minneapolis on 4th of July weekend. Four days of costumes, panels, movies, more costumes, strange drinks, music, House of Toast, Art Show, and of course where I was stationed most of the weekend: The Dealer’s Room. Since this is my third year there, I know a few people, and got to say hello which was quite nice. But mostly I worked hard, had some good conversations, and then walked around for a few hours after amongst the chaos of the convention before finding a tiny corner to hide in and putter on my laptop. Only after the weekend was over did I realize that Marina Sirtis had been a featured guest (Counselor Troy). I am not very good at these things.Ā But, anyways, if you’re near the twin-cities, like SF/F, like costumes, you should find yourself a place like this. You will feel at home. Plus, toast.

After the weekend, I spent a couple days enjoying the twin cities (Minneapolis and St Paul). I first went there around 1990, and it’s one of my favorite cities in the US. If it weren’t for winters, I’d even consider it a place one could move to. Anyhow, my friend (who put me up) and I got good food, had food with family, and went to the sculpture garden and the art museum (the cherry spoon bridge is the sculpture garden’s signature piece, btw). A lovely time.

05/14/14 Driving Star Crazy

Apologies for server issues earlier this week. Should be mostly taken care of.

TCAF was fun. Got to hang out with Don AhĆ© of Road Apples Almanac, Jeff Couturier of Hordes of Neurons, and Kate Citron of katecitrin.com,Ā (and Brian!). Audra of Nemu*Nemu stopped by to say hello (hi!). Chatted with Jess Fink, (of NSFWĀ Chester 5000, among other projects) andĀ who lives so close, its embarrassing we haven’t hung out. Got to sit betweenĀ Nicholas Gurewitch of Perry Bible Fellowship, and Sam Logan of Sam And Fuzzy, which was delightful.

The most exciting thing was to get to spend some time talking with Christophe Blain, whose art and story pacing have been a huge influence of my work (especially Spacetrawler). Check out Isaac the Pirate Set Vols.1-2, or Gus & His Gang, or The Speed Abater, or his new books: Weapons of Mass Diplomacy and In the Kitchen with Alain Passard: Inside the World (and Mind) of a Master Chef.

Oh, and he drew me a sketch. Not only is it always a thrill to watch other people illustrate, but what a lovely drawing. Thank you, Christophe!

02/28/14 Plain Old Frosting

2014-02-28_oneway_8adsv

A few weeks ago I pulled the package of sandwich cookies out of the cupboard, only to find that my sweetie had licked the frosting out of a several of them. I was the good boyfriend and ate the non-filled cookies, as I giggled, but it also inspired this strip.

If youā€™re in the area, one last reminder, Iā€™m one of the 10 writers for the ā€œ24 hour play festā€ here in Glens Falls. So, if youā€™re in the area, follow that link, buy tickets, and come!Ā :)

And today is the final fill-in art I did for Phil and Kaja over atĀ Girl Genius! Yay! What a fun project.Ā :)

Had a lovely reception for my art show opening atĀ Samanthaā€™s CafĆ©. Not a big turnout due to the snow storm, but had some lovely conversation with those who did come.

As mentioned, throughout January and February, check out the fill-in art Iā€™m doing for Phil and Kaja over atĀ Girl Genius!

Oh, and Happy Valentines Day. Hereā€™s a doodle for ya! If youā€™ve got someone, I hope itā€™s romantic. If you donā€™t, then youā€™re not alone in feeling alone, and I send you my most heartfelt sweet wishes. <3

02/12/14 Like An Ape

Another normal Monday and Tuesday for me. Drew a lot. Model Studio drawing is back on, so I did that (havenā€™t scanned them in yet though). I made potato soup. We made caramel corn. We went and saw ā€œMonuments Menā€ which was entertaining, and Iā€™m glad itā€™s out there to bring light to an interesting part of history, but it was a wee bit flat. I wouldnā€™t mind seeing the no-doubt-very-long cut if it exists.

As mentioned, throughout January and February, check out the fill-in art Iā€™m doing for Phil and Kaja over atĀ Girl Genius!

So, Marvel Comics is repackaging Ms. Marvel, and old superhero, to beĀ  shape-shifting 16 year-old Muslim girl. Thereā€™s a drawing group Iā€™m part of, and so we all did a crack at it (one of the wash drawings I mentioned). Mineā€™s below, butĀ hereā€™s a linkĀ to all of them.

01/31/14 A Drink And A Game

2014-01-31_oneway_3jkbx2

Iā€™ve run out of sketches. Now, what do I blog about? An update perhaps.

Working hard on the ā€œLittle Deeā€ graphic novel script. And ā€œGirl Geniusā€ drawings. And ā€œOne Way.ā€ Iā€™m back in New York. Got to play racquetball, so I can start shedding the pounds I picked up from the lazing about and amazing food I enjoyed in New Mexico.

As mentioned, throughout January and February, check out the fill-in art Iā€™m doing for Phil and Kaja over atĀ Girl Genius!

01/15/14 Safety and Comfort

Can I tell you how beautiful the Southwest is? It is frikkinā€™ gorgeous. Today was mild and sunny and the hills have pockets of snow and it all looks like your on earth under water. I love it.

Not a lot to blog. Been working on drawingĀ Girl Genius. And spent the last day doing almost nothing bu finishing the hull and the room Vagus is in. I like how itā€™s coming out.

Cheers!
