Back To Bruno

9/30/2002 - Monday again. So soon.

-------------------------

10/1/02 - So okay, so I bought a pair of pants at the local thrift store (I don't shop nearly enough, in fact, it's high time Bruno got some new duds too), and they're 100% cotton courderouy black (possibly very very very dark blue), and I like them very much. But they claim that they should only be dry-cleaned. Which is inconvenient and more expensive, and so I wish to put them in the regular washing machine. Now, can anyone speak with full authority on this? Not like "yeah, it's fine", but rather like "it may warp and twist it, but if you dry on low heat, but they'll bleed like hell, blah blah blah". Does anyone really know? I'm afraid I have a severe lack of knowledge in this side of domesticity. I mean, I know enough to look at the tag, but I don't know how much the tag is law.

-------------------------

10/2/02 - Wow, thanks for all the advice regarding my pants. I know it's silly, but it really cheered me up today.

So yes, down to business, the pants. First of all, except for during drying, I will do all of this with the pants inside out (and while I'm not wearing them). My plan is to hand wash them with a cup or so of white vinegar in cold water, which i guess helps the dye set, and then take the leap and wash them in a machine, alone, in case they bleed (well... maybe with one pair of white socks as a tester, I can always use a pair of blue-grey socks) on gentle/cold cycle with a mild detergent like "Seventh Generation". For drying, too many people warned against, so I'll flat-dry them and hope for the best. Wish me luck, I should have results posted by monday.

-------------------------

10/4/02 - Hey everybody... so no strip today. An old friend mine from my home town of Greenfield (well, she currently is from San Francisco) is coming to visit this weekend, and I simply got too stressed out about it (been a little too stressed in general lately) and so even though I had time after cleaning the apt and doing laundry etc, I was too stressed to get going on the strip, and I'm just about to go now and meet her at the airport. So yeah, early next week, as ever, I'll catch up. But yes, my apologies.

My best,
-christopher

-------------------------

10/7/02 - the strips are up, but I didn't get to pants washing. I know you're all on the edge of your seats. :)

-------------------------

10/8/02 - My apologies about the page yesterday morning. The strips were up, but I screwed up and only parts of the html uploaded. My fault. Anyhow, if you missed em, Saturday and Monday are in the archives.

And good lord, I remember that third story walkway too well when I worked there. Every night. brrr.

-------------------------

10/10/02 - Just thought I'd toss in a reminder that Bruno original drawings are still currently for sale. Link to see them here (or at the top of the page).

-------------------------

10/11/02 - I didn't have a proper photo-reference for today's strip, so as you might be able to read in the liner, it reads "Fehrenbacher Hof Backwards" because it's the mirror image of the Fehrenbacher Hof, which isn't the only thing that's backwards, they certainly don't have donuts.

As well, last night, just before I began drawing the strip at Vista Ave Bridge, unawares to me, a woman, near to Bruno's age, committed suicide from that very bridge. It is very very high with no fence protection, and is known sometimes locally as "suicide bridge". I'm simply without words for the incident. I makes me feel sadness.

-------------------------

10/21/02 - Hey everybody. A few important announcements today. One, is that I am going to be discontinuing the sale of original Brunos. Starting last week actually, I began drawing the strip in my sketchbooks again rather than on the cardstock I've been doing in order to sell them. Basically, I originally offered them for two reasons. One was for some extra income, which is always helpful in my unstable life. The second was that I wished to share them (even though it was difficult for me to let them go) because I know how much it means to me to own a piece of artwork from an artist I love. I have several myself.

But yeah, so I knew there was going to be a "market saturation point". I didn't think I'd reach it so soon. but of the last batch I put up, a low number sold. So, since that means not a lot of income, and as well that those who REALLY wanted some art, have been able to purchase it. I am calling it quits for selling. What I have up on ebay (also link at the top of this page) are the only ones that are going to be for sale for the far forseeable future if not for good (although, of note, I put up another additional 30 today). So yeah, anyhow, now's your chance, if you wish to own an original Bruno strip, they're there. And I guess if you're a "collector", maybe now it's a hotter item or something.

The other thing I wished to discuss was my current emotional state. Right now I'm under some heavy economic pressure due to very expensive un-insured dental surgery I'm undergoing (heh, another good reason to buy them possibly), I'm also working through a very difficult time with someone close to me in my life (that's as far I wish to say), and with the clouds moving in as autumn hits Portland, I've been rather depressed. I know there's some question as to how Bruno's life reflects mine. The facts don't generally line up aside from location, but it often coincides emotionally. But I've ordered a 10,000 lux light box which supposedly is very helpful with S.A.D., and I feel strong and stable. Just low. And like always, I say almost dryly and cycnically, it'll pass.

And how's this setting with bruno's current life?... Well, I'm trying to draw on my experiences, to make her real, for her to think about real questions and things I find in life, but I am also doing my best to have it not totally bog down the strip. I do not wish a pity party, and I don't want you, the readers, to be my surrogate therapist. I'm just trying to stay clear-headed enough to create a strip of beauty. My tower of Babel. Just watch me do it.

My best,
-christopher

-------------------------

10/22/02 - Okay, so this wasn't planned, and I feel awful about it. I mean, i hate having annoying huge texts over the strip to begin with, but at least i make sure there is a strip beneath it to read. But tonight (monday night) I got home and a friend called and asked me to help her do a photoshop project, and so the next hour and a half was spent on the phone helping her with that, and then my brother called, who i haven't spoken to in ages, and we ended up talking for hours, and then kevin called who I also haven't seen for a while because I haven't been going out much these days, and so we talked for a while, and so it's 11:30 and I've just been too run down all day and I need to get to bed. I could make myself write and draw tomrorow's bruno, but I wouldn't be happy with the quality. And it's my own bad planning, which is why it's doubly frustrating. At least know that no strips will be missed, I'll catch up in the next couple of days.

Anyhow, so... umm... I guess, encouragement given for you all to buy the original strips you want while the one you still want is there. I stand strongly behind my artwork, and think it's a really good product selling at an overly reasonable price. Oh, and several people asked today if you can pay in installments, and that's fine. I'm sure whatever can be worked out. Payments. Barter. First-borns....

But what else to say?...

-------------------------

10/25/02 - Okay, first of all. My emails been busted, and though it's finally fixed, ALL email has been LOST since TUESDAY MORNING. Please, anyone who's emailed me since then, please do so again. (Although I was able to access shipping addresses for drawings sold on ebay, and they're off in the mail today, Friday.)

Secondly, the moodycow store is back up. It was down for the last week or so.

Secondly, Corey Mosher, the amazing fellow who hosts Bruno for free (yes, happy happy praise praise), has been jobless for about a half year and appears to be in a slump. Now, this guy is computer geek extrordinaire. He's one of the tech people who made the big bucks and deserved every penny. But he's jobless now, and so anyone who knows of anyone looking, for a high-level huge network-system-crazy well-paying computer type stuff, please email him. He's in the bay area, but for the right opportunity, may relocate. He says that Antartica is prefferable. And he didn't ask me to do this, i wanted to. Owe him a lot.

Pants are folded, awaiting a decent cleaning. My gums are mending fine from the surgery (my bad tooth related). 10,000 Lux Light Box has not yet arrived. Sold some drawings this week, thanks! And my apologies for yesterdays impotent cliff-hanger. Just felt in the mood to shake things up, and it felt good for a laugh. And lastly, I'm being swept off for the weekend to SW Oregon for some R&R, wish me the ability to enjoy it. :)

-------------------------

10/29/02 - So, I'm back. Not sure what to say. I was inspired on my trip to Southern Oregon, and I wrote a lot of notes (actually for projects not being "Bruno", although I thought on her too) and saw a lot of amazing things, and had an amazing time with my travel companion. But yes. And now.... well... now I'm back. I think that pretty well sums it up.
