In the end of 2007, the thought cemented to do a strip which was irreverent (as much as i could be) while still being funny (to me). And in the beginning of April of 2008, after coming up with a handful of scripts I began it.
I knew my tendency to censor myself so that people won't think I'm a terrible bastard. And so, I created a pseudonym, "Tom Walker." It is a translation of doppelganger, "doppel" being German for "double", "Tom" means "double" or "twin", and "Ganger" is German for "goer" or "walker." I even drew myself in as a character of myself.
Also, creating a fake persona and trying to write from it was an experiment in itself.
And so i was. I wrote it irreverently, there are strips here which are very much NSFW (brief nudity, talk of sex, swearing), and so, read with a sense of levity. And know that i fully realize all the stereotypes, bad politics, and awfulness I play with in the strip.
In the end, the strip died because I reached a wall of inappropriateness, and I found I had not come to love the characters as people. I need to love my characters, or I stop caring. The weekly schedule was also wiping me out on top of everything else. I had more ideas, "Fear and Loathing in Dubai, starring Rufus," and "them all home for the holidays" still excite me to write and draw, but at this point I don't think I can. The last strip was done at the end of June. And the last strip a fabulous final nail in that coffin.
